Venom Star Michelle Williams May Be Playing Anne Weying

Venom actress Michelle Williams hints she’s playing a classic Spider-Man character.

By Ryan Leston 18th December 2017

Venom star Michelle Williams may have revealed who she’s playing.

And it’s actually pretty exciting.

During an interview with Screen Rant, the 37-year-old actress hinted that she’s going to be playing Anne Weying – aka She-Venom.

Screen Rant: “Is Venom comparable to anything else you’ve done previously, and what can you tell us about Anne Weying?”

Michelle Williams: “I’ve done one other movie where I was asked to track a tennis ball with my eyes and pretend it was a giant creature thing. Not my favorite thing in the world to do, but it is a skill set and I’m trying to learn it. And uh, she’s, geez, what can I tell you? Not too much right now.”

Woody Harrelson In Talks To Join Venom

Of course, comic book fans will know all about Anne Weying.

Known as She-Venom, she’s the ex-wife of Eddie Brock – the man who becomes Venom. And after her first appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #375, she began down a dark path leading her to bond with the iconic symbiote.

But will Sony go down this route right away?

It’s certainly an interesting direction, and might make sense if the movie is going to find franchise longevity without Spider-Man on the scene. Of course, I can’t help thinking that Sony will instead opt to flesh out Eddie Brock’s story – at least for this first instalment.

It is his movie after all.

Then, we could see Anne take on the symbiote in a later movie… or even see hints towards that in the upcoming film.

But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.

Either way, it’s a very cool connection to the Marvel comic books.

And we wouldn’t mind betting we see She-Venom eventually.

Venom stars Tom Hardy as the iconic Spider-Man villain, alongside Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, and Woody Harrelson.

Ruben Fleischer is directing the film, based on a script by Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.

Venom heads to cinemas on 5 October 2018.
