Mortal Engines just unveiled its first official trailer.
And it’s already pretty intriguing.
Mortal Engines is based on the series of fantasy novels by British author, Phillip Reeve, and it’s all based upon quite a distinctive idea. Thousands of years after civilization has been destroyed, humankind has adapted to a new way of living. Gigantic, moving cities now roam the Earth, devouring smaller cities in order to pillage their resources.
I know… told you it was pretty unique.
And this awesome new trailer gives us some idea how that will go down.
Tom Natsworthy (played by Robert Sheehan) hails from one of the Lower Tiers of the great traction city of London… and soon finds himself fighting for his own survival. Encountering the dangerous fugitive Hester Shaw (played by Hera Hilmar), the two soon forge an unlikely alliance.
But can they change the ruthless society that sees entire cities ruined?
It’s an intriguing concept, with a legendary fantasy director at the helm – none other than Peter Jackson. I have to admit – I love the idea. I think it’s exactly the kind of fantasy that will translate incredibly well to the big screen.
But can it capture the world’s imagination the same as Lord of the Rings?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Mortal Engines stars Hugo Weaving, Hera Hilmar, Robbie Sheehan, Jihae, Ronan Raftery, Leila George, Patrick Malahide, and Stephen Lang.
Peter Jackson directed the film, based on a script he co-wrote with Philippa Boyens, and Fran Walsh.
Mortal Engines heads to cinemas on 14 December 2018.
