The Wonder Woman solo movie may have found a scribe… and it’s none other than Jason Fuchs. But what happened to girl power?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 28-year-old American screenwriter is in talks to pen the upcoming Wonder Woman solo film.
“Jason Fuchs, the writer behind Warner Bros’ upcoming Pan movie, is on his way to Paradise Island via invisible jet,” they reveal. “The scribe is in negotiations to write the screenplay for Wonder Woman.”
Of course, the upcoming Wonder Woman movie is to be directed by Michelle MacLaren, and it considered to be one of DC’s most important movies to date. After all, it’s Wonder Woman’s big screen debut, and she’s widely considered to be an icon of women’s rights.
Considering that Warner Bros. has clearly gone to great lengths to secure a suitable female director, it’s perhaps surprising to find they’ve settled for a male writer.
Still, it’s worth nothing that Warner had “no comment” on the matter. So perhaps there’s hope yet.
However, there is one thing worth considering. Perhaps he’s the perfect writer for the job. Set in the 1920s on the island of Themyscira, the Wonder Woman movie is believed to set up a trilogy of films which leads Diana Prince through the ages, right up into the modern day.
It’s quite clearly in fantastical prequel territory… and from the man writing Pan perhaps that’s right up his street.
Either way, Wonder Woman is shaping up to be a very promising new franchise for Warner Bros. And with Gal Gadot picking up the lasso of truth, it could be exactly what the Justice League needs – a strong, well-written female lead.
Although Gal Gadot is set to appear in Batman V Superman it’s likely that we won’t get our first good look at her until the upcoming Justice League movie.
But I’ve got a very good feeling about this.
