It looks as though Ryan Reynolds is getting a Deadpool solo movie.
According to Deadline Hollywood, it looks as though this is already a done deal, with Reynolds reprising the role of Deadpool.
“Fox is closing a deal with Ryan Reynolds for a feature on Deadpool,” they claim, “the character he originated in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”
“The film is being directed by Tim Miller, who has done strong visual effects work through his VFX house Blur Films,” they added. “Miller has been developing the film for several years, from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg producing.”
Of course, this news comes just shortly after Reynolds himself took to Twitter to post a rather cryptic Deadpool image… and many fans have assumed that this means the project is heading into production.
But what do we think of Ryan Reynolds returning in the role?
His first appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine wasn’t brilliant… but that’s not exactly Reynolds’ fault. The film was universally panned by critics and failed to live up to the early hype. But I get the feeling that Reynolds was born to play this role.
Following leaked footage of an early Deadpool concept, fans were quick to rally behind him. Let’s just say that the response was phenomenal, as was the clip of Deadpool rocking around… well… being Deadpool.
Will 20th Century Fox stay true to this rather gritty concept, or will they push for something a little more family friendly?
I certainly hope there’s no compromise when it comes to the wit and humour of Deadpool. But how that translates into an age rating remains to be seen.
