Star Wars: Rogue One is already recruiting… as Sam Claflin and Riz Ahmed enter talks to join the upcoming Star Wars spin-off.
Until recently, very little was known about Star Wars: Rogue One – the first ever Star Wars spin-off to head to the big screen. But with Felicity Jones confirmed for a leading role, it looks as though there are plenty of others queuing up join her.
And that includes Sam Claflin and Riz Ahmed.
According to The Wrap, the two British actors are already in talks to appear in the galaxy far, far away.
“Sam Claflin is being eyed for one of the starring roles in Star Wars: Rogue One,” they revealed. “Riz Ahmed is in talks to join the cast as well… Disney and the actors’ reps had no comment.”
Of course, Sam Claflin is already well-known to Hunger Games fans – appearing as Finnick Odair in the popular Young Adult series. But the 28-year-old actor has also starred in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides as well as Snow White and the Huntsmen.
And he’s presumably returning to our screens in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.
“While Claflin does not have the role yet, he is the frontrunner for one of the ensemble roles,” they explain. “He has a lot of experience as a supporting player in blockbusters… but he is being eyed for a more substantial role in Rogue One.”
And then there’s Riz Ahmed, who rose to fame after starring alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the critically-acclaimed drama, Nightcrawler. Also known for starring in British comedy, Four Lions, it looks as though he’s starting to turn a lot of heads.
Of course, the British duo join Felicity Jones – who was recently confirmed to star in Rogue One… and could also be joined by Ben Mendelsohn.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, the film is said to be more focussed on the ‘war’ of Star Wars, and will follow a band of soldiers and mercenaries as they recover the original Death Star plans.
But who will Claflin and Ahmed play? And will they be characters we already know?
For now, we have to wait and see… but with Rogue One set before the original Star Wars movie, I can’t help thinking we may see some familiar faces.
Star Wars: Rogue One heads to cinemas on 16 December 2016.
