Star Wars 9 could be just around the corner…
It looks as though we’ll be heading back to the galaxy far, far away sooner than we thought, as Disney and Lucasfilm prepare to start filming Star Wars: Episode IX – the final chapter in the sequel trilogy.
According to a new listing at industry site My Entertainment World, the upcoming Star Wars sequel will begin shooting in just a few months – July 2017, to be exact.
And it’s likely to commence at Pinewood Studios.
It’s not the first hint we’ve had at a July start date, either.
An earlier casting call (found by Omega Underground) seems to back this up, also pointing towards July 2017 for the start of principle photography.
But what do we know about the production?
At this stage, very little. Given the secrecy that surrounded The Force Awakens (and the even tighter security around The Last Jedi) it looks as though Episode 9 will remain a mystery for quite some time. In fact, all we really know is the reported start date… and that it will be directed by Jurassic World helmer, Colin Trevorrow.
It’s perhaps safe to assume that The Force Awakens stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver will return… but as for original trilogy actor Mark Hamill, that hinges on what happens in The Last Jedi.
After all, it wouldn’t be the first time a Jedi died to become more powerful than we could possibly imagine. And it would make an interesting development when it comes to Rey’s training.
But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi heads to cinemas on 15 December 2017.
