After rumours that the first Star Wars spin-off would focus on either Han Solo or Boba Fett, it looks as though it might actually be both…
It’s no surprise that Han Solo was instantly put forward as a candidate for his own Star Wars spin-off. After all, he remains one of the most popular characters of the original films. The mysterious Boba Fett certainly opens up plenty of options in terms of back story.
But while both have been linked to their own Star Wars spin-off films, it looks as though they may take to the screen together.
According to the Latino Review, it looks as though maybe we should expect to see both Han Solo and Boba Fett in the first Star Wars spin-off.
“When we thought that we were looking at a Han Solo or a Boba Fett spin-off film first, we got a little bird singing in our ear telling us that we had it all wrong: both these characters are in the same movie.”
“I’ve been unable to elaborate on what that means,” they added. “But as this new Star Wars film comes together, I can’t help but wonder if this isn’t a ‘standalone’ as much as it’s really a ‘spin-off’.”
Of course, we first saw Han Solo and Boba Fett together on screen in The Empire Strikes Back. It was clear from their interactions that there was a bit of history there. It’s likely that this is what has inspired the thinking behind a Han/Boba spin-off – that is, if the rumours are true.
And I can’t help thinking it’s a very compelling way to go.
For one thing, Boba Fett is largely an unwritten book. Aside from his appearances in Episode II: Attack of the Clones and the hit TV show The Clone Wars, there’s really quite a lot of room to shape the character… and that’s likely to come in rather handy.
Of course, Han Solo is another matter entirely… but with his smuggling antics and shady past, it’s all the beginnings of a rather epic crime tale that just happens to be set in the galaxy far, far away.
Unfortunately, we have no idea whether or not these rumours are true… and for now, the spin-offs remains shrouded in mystery. Does it make a lot of sense? Sure, but then so do the plethora of other rumours we’ve seen in the wake of the Star Wars spin-off announcement.
Quite how the first Star Wars spin-off ends up remains to be seen. But I get the feeling it’s going to be a momentous occasion, whatever happens.
