Star Wars VII Trailer Narrator Revealed?

The mysterious voice in the Star Wars 7 trailer may have been identified… and it’s apparently Andy Serkis.

Star Wars 8 The Last Jedi Kylo Ren

Although Benedict Cumberbatch has been linked to the Star Wars VII teaser trailer, it looks as though that mysterious voice may have been identified… and it’s not him.

According to Drew McWeeny at HitFix, the rather sisniter-sounding narrator was none other than Andy Serkis.

“That is Andy Serkis you hear in the trailer,” he explains. “I was able to verify this, although I was not able to uncover any further information about the role he plays. Here’s what I do know, though. He’s playing a pivotal role in the film, although he will not have a lot of screen time.”

Star Wars VII Teaser Trailer Revealed

From what I’m hearing, that certainly makes a lot of sense… even if the voice did sound an awful lot like Benedict Cumberbatch.

But our pals at Jedi News have a bit more information about Andy Serkis’ role in the galaxy far, far away. And it looks as though he might have more than one.

“Sources have also told us that Serkis will be playing more than one role in The Force Awakens,” they explain. “One of those roles is, as expected, motion capture based – and in that role he will be part of a ‘group of unbelievably athletic and acrobatic motion capture characters.’ Also bringing those characters to life is parkour expert Pip Anderson, and ‘whom I believe to be Crystal Clarke’. The second role for Serkis sees him take on a ‘pivotal role in the first act story arc that entwines with Daisy Ridley’s backstory,’ and that role ‘may have more to it than it seems in the first instance’.”

This is just a rumour for the time being… but I can’t help thinking this has a ring of truth about it. After all, Abrams may have hired Serkis for a very particular physical role, but would he really pass up the opportunity to use the world’s leading motion-capture artist?

Star Wars VII Features A New Jedi Order?

Of course, this seems to quash those rumours about Benedict Cumberbatch. At least, for the time being. But with none of this information confirmed by Lucasfilm, it is just a rumour. But does the voice belong to our villainous ‘Sith’? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

What do you think of the sinister voiceover? Was that Andy Serkis in the Star Wars VII trailer? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
