Terminator: Genisys gets a first official trailer. But if you were expecting anything revolutionary, you’ve come to the wrong place…
Fans of the Terminator franchise should be familiar with the feeling of disappointment by now. After all, both Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation actually happened. I know, I know… it wasn’t just a bad dream. But low and behold, there’s a chance to undo the mistakes of the past by resetting the timeline! And it only takes shitting all over the original films to do so.
This mediocre first trailer for the upcoming Terminator: Genisys instantly takes a trip down memory lane. There’s the hovering drones, the time travel, the naked dudes showing up in an alleyway that made the original what it was. But do we really need to see it all over again?
Apparently so… and not content with rehashing old themes, it looks as though we’re ‘treated’ to some appallingly rehashed lines.
“Come with me if you want to live,” whimpers the unimposing Emilia Clarke as a presumably badass Sarah Connor. And it’s not long before Arnold says “I’ll be back.”
But is that really enough to carry an entire film?
Presumably there’s some new plot in here somewhere… and with the possibility to change the timeline and stop the war before it started (again) it looks as though we’re thrust back into familiar territory as the Terminators try to kill off Sarah Connor and the resistance tries to save her. Again. For the millionth time.
But wait – the liquid metal Terminator is back!
Actually, don’t get too excited. It seems that (for reasons that will probably become fairly obvious) Robert Patrick didn’t return for this rather sad Terminator sequel. Instead, he’s been replaced by Byung-hun Lee.
But rather than give this new terminator a new look, they’ve clearly tried to shoehorn him into a police costume and tread old ground. Over and over and over.
Is that supposed to be the charm of Terminator: Genisys? Are we supposed to be impressed by the faithfulness to the original movies? In a film that will eventually destroy everything we loved about them, I can’t help thinking that’s the wrong angle to take.
Still, the action looks pretty decent so that’s someth… hang on, did Arnie just divebomb a helicopter? Okay, I’m done.
What do you think of this awful new trailer? Could Terminator: Genisys be even worse than its predecessor? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
