Mulder and Scully aren’t the only ones back in the new series of The X-Files.
Walter Skinner and the Cigarette Smoking Man could both return.
According to Entertainment Weekly, original series star David Duchovny revealed to David Letterman that several other cast members would return.
“Fox’s X-Files revival will likely have more original cast members than first announced,” they said. “Star David Duchovny told CBS Late Show host David Letterman on Tuesday that the sci-fi hit’s Fox reboot will include supportive clench-jawed FBI assistant director Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) and the villainous Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis).”
Entertainment Weekly added that while Duchovny is sure he will be back, the casting is not-yet official. And that might mean some changes before the episodes make it to our screens.
“We’re told the only deals in place right now are for Duchovny, co-star Gillian Anderson and creator Chris Carter,” they explained. “But you have to figure that Duchovny is pretty good source of intel, right?”
But what does this mean for the new X-Files series?
Well, if the Cigarette Smoking Man is set to appear, it’s likely that he somehow survived the events of the X-Files finale.
This wouldn’t be the first time he has managed to cheat death. And it could play well, depending on how it’s handled.
But could we also see the return of series regulars, John Doggett (Robert Patrick) and Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gosh)?
The last we saw of them, they’d switched cars with Mulder and Scully, driving off into the desert while those signature Black Helicopters gave chase.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but the truth is out there, and it’ll be on our screens soon enough.
