Viola Davis Joins Suicide Squad?

It looks as though David Ayer’s Suicide Squad has finally found its Amanda Waller… and it’s none other than Viola Davis.

December 17, 2014 by Ryan Leston

David Ayer’s Suicide Squad has finally found its Amanda Waller… and it’s none other than Viola Davis.

It’s no secret that Suicide Squad is set to bring some of DC’s deadliest super villains to the big screen. Starring Jared Leto as the Joker and rumoured to include an appearance from Lex Luthor, it’s going to take one strong woman to keep them all in line.

And while contenders for the role of Amanda Waller have been rumoured for some time, it seems that David Ayer has finally found the woman to keep the team together.

According to the Latino Review, the role of Amanda Waller has been cast, even if it hasn’t been officially announced… and it’s Viola Davis who will take charge of the Suicide Squad.

“According to sources, the lovely Viola Davis (How To Get Away With Murder) has bagged the role of major DC Comics villain and Prison Warden Amanda Waller in David Ayer’s upcoming Suicide Squad.”

Of course, in the comic books Amanda Waller is a former congressional aide who has been put in charge of the Suicide Squad – a crack team of super villains assembled to do the dirty work of the US government in exchange for a shorter sentence.

But while Viola Davis has apparently landed the high-profile role, it looks as though it may still depend on her rather hectic TV schedule.

“The key here is that the role is hers provided that the filmmakers can work out her TV schedule, which will be no small feat considering how big of a hit ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ is,” they explain. “If it works out she will be joining Jared Leto as the Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Tom Hardy as Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Boomerang (or Captain Boomerang), and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.”

Obviously, Davis isn’t the first to be rumoured for the role of Amanda Waller… and while it seems she may have run away with the role, we’ve also seen the likes of Oprah Winfrey and Octavia Spencer reportedly in the running.

Will Viola Davis join the squad? For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but it certainly feels like an incredibly strong choice.

What do you think of Viola Davis as Amanda Waller? Who would you like to see in the role? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
