It’s been all quiet on the Orc front since Duncan Jones was revealed to direct the upcoming Warcraft movie… but not any longer. Blizzcon unveils some awesome first looks at the cast and characters of the upcoming fantasy movie.
Although we’ve known most of the cast of the upcoming Warcraft film for some time, there’s been one thing we didn’t know – which characters they’re going to play. But it looks as though Legendary pictures has finally lifted the lid, giving us our first glimpse at some of them in action.
Starring Dominic Cooper as King Llane Wrynn, we finally get our first glimpse of the leader of the Alliance – a faction that should be familiar to players of World of Warcraft. But this is a far cry from what the players encounter on their travels…
King Llane Wrynn I was the ruler of Azeroth during the First War… and while his presence is certainly felt throughout the hugely popular MMO, the movie takes us back to a time long before the video game… and might even fill in some of the blanks.
Of course, there are plenty of other familiar names that crop up in these new character reveals… and it looks as though players who enjoyed the Karazhan raid might be in for a bit of a treat.
“Ben Foster is Medivh the ‘Guardian’, a mysterious, reclusive protector with formidable power,” Legendary explained via Twitter. “Ben Schnitzer is Khadgar, a gifted young mage on a daring search for the truth.”
Whether or not we get to see the events that unfold between Medivh and Khadgar remains to be seen… but I can’t help thinking this is one story that’s just begging to be told on the big screen.
And that’s not all – there are plenty of other infamous characters from Warcraft’s past.
“Robert Kazinsky is Orgrim, destined to wield the Doomhammer, heroic Orc weapon, as the right hand of Durotan,” they reveal. “Paula Patton is Garona, a strong-willed survivor who must decide where true loyalty lies. Toby Kebbell is Durotan, Chieftain and defender of the Frostwolf Clan. Clancy Brown is Blackhand ‘The Destroyer’, one of the most feared and titanic warchiefs among the Orcs.”
“Ruth Negga is Lady Taria, Queen of Stormwind at King Llane’s side. His great love and most trusted counsel. Daniel Wu is Gul’dan, supreme Orc ruler fueled by a dark magic that even he cannot control. Travis Fimmel is warrior Anduin Lothar, a hero who has sacrificed everything.”
Obviously, all the players are here for a rather epic look into Warcraft’s history… and with some of the greatest storylines from Azeroth seemingly intertwined in this epic upcoming movie, it looks as though there’s plenty to get excited for. Let’s just hope Duncan Jones pulls off the greatest video game movie of all time.
