Avengers: Age of Ultron will see Pepper Potts take a back seat as Tony Stark appears for the first time without her. But will she return in Captain America: Civil War?
It’s already a pretty full house when it comes to Avengers: Age of Ultron… and the superhero roster is about to get even bigger. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will presumably team up with The Avengers at some point. And with various Marvel characters already on board, it looks as though poor old Pepper has failed to make the cut.
But while she’ll be sitting out the Avengers sequel, could she return in the upcoming Civil War?
In an interview with Dish Nation, the 42-year-old Iron Man actress revealed that she’s unsure about her role in Civil War… or even if she has one. But she certainly seems keen.
“I don’t know,” she said when asked whether or not she’s been confirmed to return. “I’ve heard rumors that maybe… and I don’t know. My fingers are crossed. I would love to be Pepper Potts again at some point in my life.”
Of course, fans of the comic books will know that Pepper didn’t exactly have much of a role during the Civil War comic book storyline… and was actually married to Happy Hogan at the time. Now, it’s unlikely that events will unfold that closely follow the comic books – after all, Marvel has shown that it’s more than willing to deviate from the classic stories. And that means there could be hope for Pepper yet.
After all, look what they did to the Mandarin…
But let’s face it – Pepper Potts is in a pretty solid position when it comes to the MCU. She’s CEO of Stark Industries and the other half of one of Marvel’s most recognisable heroes. Of course, that hasn’t stopped her being left out of the upcoming Avengers sequel. And with her running Stark’s empire, you have to wonder why she’s not involved in the Ultron story.
After all, Stark has unleashed death and destruction on the world with one of his creations. Surely Stark Industries’ CEO should be involved?
From a film-making point of view, perhaps it’s a case of over-saturation. And with Pepper appearing in every one of Iron Man’s adventures so far, maybe it’s time to give her a break. But there’s nothing stopping her from showing up to support Tony in Civil War.
Will Gwyneth Paltrow get to appear in the highly anticipated Civil War? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But maybe it’s the right time for her to return.
Captain America: Civil War heads to cinemas on 29 April 2016.
