Fans of Cyclops and Jean Grey rejoice! Your favourite X-Men will be heading to X-Men: Apocalypse… and they could be played by Ben Hardy and Chloe Grace Moretz.
According to The Wrap, X-Men: Apocalypse takes the franchise off into uncharted waters. And that means younger actors to play these iconic X-Men.
“X-Men: Apocalypse takes the franchise in a new direction,” they explained. “And producer Simon Kinberg has already revealed that the film will bring in younger actors to play Cyclops, Storm and Jean Grey.”
But who have they got in mind? It looks as though 17-year-old Chloe Grace Moretz is amongst three leading actresses tipped for the role of Jean Grey.
“Chloe Moretz, Elle Fanning and Oscar-nominated actress Hailee Steinfeld are among the teenage leading ladies being eyed to play young Jean Grey in Bryan Singer‘s X-Men: Apocalypse,” they revealed. “While a representative for Moretz didn’t respond to multiple requests for comment, an insider confirms that she and Fanning were among the girls who met with Singer in recent weeks as he commenced his search for young Jean Grey.”
Of course, Chloe Grace Moretz is already famous for a very particular superhero role, having starred as the foul-mouthed Hit-Girl in Mark Millar’s awesome comic book adaptation, Kick-Ass.
But would she make an equally badass Jean Grey?
“Sources caution that official test offers for the role of Jean Grey have not been made yet,” they explain. “Not only are other up-and-comers still in the mix, but it’s unclear whether Fanning is even pursuing the high-profile role at this time.”
But what about Jean Grey’s on-again-off-again lover, Scott Summers? It looks as though there’s a shortlist for his role too, including Eastenders actor Ben Hardy.
“Ben Hardy, Charlie Rowe and Timothee Chalamet are under consideration for the role of young Cyclops,” they explain. “What’s clear at this point is that Singer is aiming high for the role of young Jean Grey,” they added, “while the director seems more open to casting a fresh face as Cyclops.”
Among the impressive list is Timothee Chalamet, who recently played the role of Matthew McConaughey’s son in the sci-fi blockbuster, Interstellar. But while director Bryan Singer is clearly aiming high for Jean Grey, it looks as though he may be after an altogether fresher face when it comes to Cyclops.
Of course, the original X-Men were played by Famke Janssen and James Marsden, but the upcoming Apocalypse seeks to take the franchise off in an entirely new direction… and that means a host of fresh new faces.
But who will join the likes of James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender in the new X-Men franchise? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
